Lovable and Replit make the same promise: describe an app in plain language and an AI agent builds it. That’s why they get compared so often. Under the hood, though, they’re different products. Lovable is a builder focused on React web apps with a backend already wired up. Replit is a full development environment in the browser with a very capable agent on top. The difference shows as soon as a project stops being a prototype.
How we made this comparison: from both tools’ official documentation, their pricing pages and independent coverage from October 2026. It isn’t a long hands-on test. Where sources disagree, we say so.
Quick comparison
| Lovable | Replit | |
|---|---|---|
| What it is | AI app builder | Browser-based development environment with an AI agent |
| Who it’s for | Non-coders, founders, product teams | Founders, learners and people who code or want to learn |
| What it builds | Web and apps with React, TypeScript and Tailwind | Projects in many languages, including mobile apps |
| Backend | Supabase out of the box plus Lovable Cloud | Database, auth and secrets inside Replit |
| Plan before spending | Plan Mode | Plan mode (Agent 4) |
| Mobile | Not its focus | iOS simulator and Android emulator in the browser |
| Code | Two-way GitHub sync | Full editor and terminal: the code is right there |
| Free plan | Yes, 5 daily credits | Yes (Starter), with a daily agent allowance and one published app |
| Entry price | $25/mo (Pro, 100 credits) | From $20/mo (Core, $20 in credits) |
| How you’re billed | Credits per request, one balance for building, hosting and the app’s AI | Dollar credits based on agent effort; Free Mode doesn’t spend credits |
How you work with each one
Lovable is designed so you never have to see the code if you don’t want to. You write what you need, the agent builds it and you tweak it with Visual Edits, clicking elements on screen. Before you spend credits going the wrong way you can switch to Plan Mode, which proposes a detailed plan and touches nothing until you approve it. When the project grows, GitHub sync lets you take the code out and keep going in your own editor.
Replit puts a real programming environment in front of you: files, editor, terminal, database and deployment, all in the browser. Its Agent 4 also plans before building, works on several tasks in parallel on higher plans and can read production logs to fix real errors. You don’t need to know how to code to start, but if you do, everything is at hand without leaving Replit.
What you can build
- Websites, internal dashboards and product prototypes: both work. Lovable usually gives a more polished visual result on the first try; several independent comparisons rate it higher on design, while Replit tends to deliver more complete apps under the hood.
- Mobile apps: a clear win for Replit, which shows an iOS simulator or Android emulator inside the workspace, with no Xcode or phone needed.
- Non-React projects: Replit. Lovable sticks to its stack (React, TypeScript, Tailwind and Supabase).
- An app with users and a database without configuring anything: both handle it. Lovable with Supabase and Lovable Cloud; Replit with its built-in services.
Pricing and credits
| Lovable | Replit | |
|---|---|---|
| Free | 5 daily credits that don’t accumulate | Starter: daily agent allowance, one published app |
| Entry | Pro: $25/mo ($21 billed annually), 100 credits | Core: from $20/mo, $20 in credits, unlimited published apps |
| Next tier | Business: $50/mo ($42 billed annually) | Pro: $100/mo, up to 10 parallel agent tasks |
| Extra credits | Tiers up to 10,000 credits a month | Credit tiers from $100 to $4,000 a month on Pro |
Both charge with credits and on both spend is hard to predict: debugging loops are what eat the most. On Lovable, a simple page can cost 30 to 60 credits and a database app several hundred, and a single balance now also pays for hosting and the published app’s AI. On Replit, cost depends on agent effort: Free Mode doesn’t spend credits (it picks the model itself), while Power and Max modes do.
One pricing caveat: several independent guides give Replit Core’s $20 as the annual-billing price and put monthly billing at around $25. Check replit.com/pricing before you subscribe.
October news worth knowing
- Replit and its models: on October 16, at TechCrunch Disrupt, its CEO said Replit is no longer working with Anthropic and that ChatGPT is now the default model. He later clarified that Anthropic models remain available, and a source cited by TechCrunch says the deal is still in place. In practice, the default model may change.
- Lovable’s single balance: the company is merging building, Lovable Cloud hosting and published apps’ AI into one credit balance. The change is reaching accounts gradually.
When to pick each one
Pick Lovable if:
- You don’t code and want a good-looking website or web app as fast as possible.
- Your goal is to validate an idea or show a prototype to customers or investors.
- React and Supabase are enough for you and you like adjusting the design with clicks.
Pick Replit if:
- You also want a mobile app or a project that isn’t React.
- You code, or want to learn, and prefer having an editor and terminal at hand.
- You want one place to build, test and publish without setting up servers, with the agent working in parallel on higher plans.
And if you already code every day, neither may be for you: an AI editor like Cursor gives you more control over the code. We explain it in Lovable vs Cursor.
Verdict
To go from an idea to a good-looking website or app without touching code, Lovable is the most direct route. For a project you want to take further, with mobile, other languages and the whole environment in one place, Replit has more range. Both have a free plan: the best way to decide is to ask both for the same app and see how many credits each one burns before it works.
