What Grammarly is
Grammarly is a writing assistant that checks grammar, spelling, clarity and tone wherever you already write - browser, Word, email clients, Slack. That ubiquity, not the AI, is its real product.
The question in 2026 is different from the question in 2022. Back then Grammarly did something nothing else did. Now ChatGPT and Claude will edit your text for free. So the review has to answer one thing: what are you still paying for?
First, the name: Grammarly is now owned by a company called Superhuman
This confuses people, so it is worth clearing up before the pricing.
On 29 October 2025 the parent company renamed itself from Grammarly to Superhuman. What changed was the company’s name, not the product’s: the writing assistant is still called Grammarly and still works the same way.
The background: in July 2025 Grammarly acquired the email client Superhuman, and also agreed to acquire Coda. Those pieces became the Superhuman Suite, bundling the Grammarly assistant, Superhuman Mail, Superhuman Docs (the former Coda) and an AI assistant called Superhuman Go.
If you only want your writing checked, none of this changes your day. It matters for the pricing, which was genuinely reorganised.
Plans and pricing
| Plan | Price | What’s included |
|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Core corrections plus limited AI suggestions |
| Pro | $12/mo yearly ($144), $30/mo monthly | Advanced corrections, tone, plagiarism detection, and teams of up to 149 members |
| Superhuman Suite Business | $33/member/mo yearly, $40 monthly | All of the above plus Superhuman Mail, Docs and Go |
| Enterprise | Custom | - |
The separate Business plan is gone. Grammarly merged Premium and Business into a single Pro plan that now covers individuals and teams alike. What sits above it is not “Grammarly Business” any more but the Superhuman Suite, which is a different product: it includes the mail client and the docs app, not just the writing assistant.
Worth knowing, because plenty of pricing pages still list a Grammarly Business tier at $15/user that no longer matches what you can actually buy.
Note the gap between $12 and $30. The advertised price assumes an annual commitment; paying month to month costs two and a half times as much.
What you are actually paying for
Not the corrections. The free plan catches the great majority of everyday errors, and a general AI model will rewrite a paragraph better than Grammarly will.
What Pro buys you is friction removal. Grammarly works inline, as you type, in the app you are already in. Copying a paragraph into ChatGPT, asking for an edit, and pasting it back is objectively better editing and objectively worse workflow. If you write dozens of emails and documents a day, that difference compounds.
The other genuine Pro features are plagiarism detection, which matters for academic and published work, and tone detection, which is more useful than it sounds for anyone writing professional email in a second language. Since the reshuffle, Pro also carries the team features that used to sit behind Business.
Where it goes wrong
Grammarly has an opinion about how writing should sound, and that opinion is corporate. Accept every suggestion and distinctive prose becomes smooth, neutral and forgettable. For business communication that is fine. For anything with a voice, treat its suggestions as questions rather than instructions.
It is also noticeably weaker outside English. If you write mainly in another language, look at LanguageTool or a general AI model instead.
Verdict
Grammarly in 2026 is a convenience purchase, not a capability purchase, and that is a fair thing to buy.
Stay free if you write occasionally: the free tier covers ordinary proofreading. Pay for Pro if you write professionally in English all day and value inline correction over better-but-slower editing elsewhere - and if you do, take the annual plan, because $30/mo is not defensible.
The $33 Suite is a different decision entirely, and it should be judged as one. You are buying an email client and a docs app alongside the writing assistant. If you want those, the bundle is reasonable. If you want your writing checked, it is roughly triple the price of the plan that does that.
