What Suno AI is

Suno turns a written description into a finished song: instrumentation, arrangement, vocals and lyrics, in about a minute. You do not need to play an instrument, read music or open a DAW.

That is what separates it from earlier AI music tools, which produced background loops. Suno produces songs with a singer.

Plans and pricing

Plan Price Credits/mo Approx. songs
Free $0 50/day ~10 a day, personal use only
Pro $10/mo ($8/mo yearly) 2,500 ~500 songs + commercial rights
Premier $30/mo ($24/mo yearly) 10,000 ~2,000 songs + Suno Studio

The line that matters most is commercial rights. Everything you generate on the free plan is for personal use only. If a track is going into a monetised video, an ad or a client project, you need at least Pro.

Suno Studio, on the Premier plan

Premier includes Suno Studio, a full DAW. That moves Suno from “generator” to “production tool”: you can take a generated track apart and work on it rather than accepting what comes out.

For most creators it is overkill. For anyone actually releasing music, it is the reason to pay $30 instead of $10.

Where it is strong and where it slips

Suno’s stylistic range is its best feature: it moves convincingly across genres that usually require different tools entirely.

The weaknesses are consistent. Vocals slip on unusual words, and non-English lyrics come out less cleanly than English. Long tracks lose coherence, repeating sections rather than developing them. And compared with Udio, you have less fine control over song structure - Suno is faster to a good result, Udio is better if you want to shape one.

Suno vs Udio

Suno Udio
Vocal quality ★★★★ ★★★★
Genre range ★★★★★ ★★★★
Free plan ★★★★ ★★★
Creative control ★★★★ ★★★★★
Pro price $10/mo $10/mo
Download the audio Yes No, since 30-10-2025

On paper Udio offers more production control and Suno has the better free plan. But one row settles the comparison ahead of the others: Udio switched off downloads on 30 October 2025, after its licensing settlement with Universal Music Group. The platform became a “walled garden” where you can generate and listen, but not export.

If the song has to leave the platform - a video, a podcast, an ad, a client - Udio is not an alternative today, however good it is at generating.

Verdict

Suno is the most accessible music generator available and the free plan is genuinely usable for judging it: ten songs a day is a lot of experimenting.

The decision is simpler than with most tools. If your music stays private, stay free. If it goes anywhere public, Pro at $10/mo buys the commercial rights and removes the problem entirely.
