How we did this review: it is based on Mistral’s official pages (pricing, announcements) and independent coverage. It is not an extended hands-on test of our own, and we flag where sources disagree.

What is Mistral Vibe?

Mistral Vibe is the assistant from the French company Mistral AI. Until May 2026 it was called Le Chat: on 28 May 2026 Mistral merged its consumer assistant and its coding agent into a single product called Vibe. It’s the same product, with the same accounts, history, settings and plans; the name and focus change, and it now combines chat, work automation and coding.

Its main selling point is being the European option: an alternative to ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini for people who prioritize GDPR and not depending on US providers.

What it offers

  • Chat with web search, extended reasoning and deep research reports, with more messages and searches on the paid plans.
  • Work mode: the assistant acts on your work tools. According to coverage, it connects to Google Workspace, Outlook, SharePoint, Slack and GitHub.
  • Remote coding agents, powered by Mistral Medium 3.5, that work in the background.
  • Flash Answers, very fast responses: 150 a day on Pro and 200 per user on Team.

Plans and pricing in 2026

Plan Price What you get
Free $0 Limited messages, web searches and coding sessions (no published figures)
Pro $14.99/mo More messages and searches, extended reasoning, deep research reports, more Vibe capacity, chat and email support
Team $24.99/user/mo Shared workspace with admin controls, unified billing and priority support; per the press, European data residency and a shared 30 GB library per user
Enterprise Custom Tailored terms

Some guides list Pro’s price in euros (€14.99) and others in dollars: check the currency at mistral.ai when you subscribe. Team and higher plans are bought from the web, not the app stores. There are also student plans, but sources disagree on the price.

Versus ChatGPT and Claude

Mistral competes mainly on price and data sovereignty. Pro costs less than the $20 of ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro, and the Team plan keeps data handling in Europe. On raw capability, OpenAI, Anthropic and Google models are still ahead on the most demanding tests, although Mistral keeps raising the stakes: on 6 October it announced Mistral Large 4, with a trillion parameters and open weights promised for the end of the month.

Who is it for?

  • European companies and professionals with GDPR or data-location requirements.
  • Anyone who wants a full assistant for under $20 a month.
  • Anyone who wants to try an alternative to the big US providers.

If your priority is top performance in reasoning or coding, ChatGPT or Claude are still the safer bet.

Verdict

Mistral Vibe is a serious, cheaper alternative for everyday use, with the appeal of being European. Its weak points are the opacity of its usage limits and the fact that it’s still a step behind the leaders on the toughest tests. If GDPR or price weigh on your decision, it deserves a free trial; if you want the most powerful tool on the market, look at the big players first.
